The representative of the European Climate, Infrastructure and Environment Executive Agency (CINEA) from the European Commission, Mr. Espina, has performed the last visit to verify the completion of the works carried out under the project “Ravenna Port Hub: infrastructural works” co-financed with the Connecting Europe Facility programme (CEF) CEF-T
As announced by the President Rossi a few months ago, the works under the project “Ravenna Port Hub: infrastructural works”, which is receiving an EU support of more than 30 million euros, have reached their final stage. The visit of the CINEA representative marks the end of one of the most important strategic investments in the history of the port of Ravenna.
The total investments that are foreseen at the port are worth about 1 billion euros. Works co-financed within the “Ravenna Port Hub: infrastructural works” Action comprise the canal being dredged to the depth of -12,50 metres the renovation of the operational quays, the construction of a new 1km-long quay for the multi-purpose terminal.
Moreover, besides this Action the following investments will be made: further dredging reaching -14,50 metres by the end of 2026, creation of 200 ha of available logistics areas, the development of road and railway connections and, through a strong emphasis placed on digital transition, the increased efficiency of loading and unloading procedures of goods.
The port will finally have a suitable canal dept to host larger ships, meaning that increased quantities of goods can transit through the port in a more timely and secure manner. It is worth to mention also the ongoing and planned investments in energy transition, aimed at guaranteeing a greater environmental sustainability of port operations.
To sum up, we are living a moment which President Rossi has defined “historical” for the Port of Ravenna, for the Emilia-Romagna region and for our country as a whole. The project, by increasing the attractiveness of the port of Ravenna, has not only helped to guarantee the existing 15.000 jobs but has also made it possible to create numerous new employment opportunities.
“The completion of the project “Ravenna Port Hub: infrastructural works” - Mr. Espina, the representative of the European Climate, Infrastructure and Environment Executive Agency (CINEA) from the European Commission, declared - is a major step to achieve the European Transport network, and particularly for the Baltic Sea -Adriatic Sea Corridor, that has been recently extended until Bari, and the Mediterranean Core Network Corridor.
This project permits to unlock and enhance the port's capacity by improving its accessibility and connectivity and at the same time to ensure solid and robust European transport routes, to and from one of the major European ports as transiting volumes are concerned. Moreover, this project is improving the intermodal integration along the two European corridors.”
“Thanks to the success of this infrastructural development project at the port – Mr. Rossi, President of Port of Ravenna Authority, stated - today we can talk about the “gold standard of Ravenna”. A standard based on virtue and skills, on a shared vision of the future, on agreement between public and private objectives, which has allowed us to get things done in forecasted time and ways.
The completion of the Ravenna Port Hub project, allows the port of Ravenna, together with all the other ongoing projects, to gain a key role as a logistics hub between the Southern Mediterranean, Northern Africa and Continental Europe.”
