The port of Ravenna is one of the major Italian ports as far as breakbulk cargo is concerned: in particular, it is the Italian leader in the handling of raw materials for ceramics, cereals, fertilisers and meals for animals.
It is also an important port for general cargo, in particular timber and coils which are unloaded in the Ravenna port.
The port is connected by line and tramp vessels to the entire world but the main area of traffic is the Mediterranean and the Black Sea. Concerning these areas, the port of Ravenna is an Italian leader also in the container traffic.
