The industrial port

Thanks to the geographical position of Ravenna in the heart of the most productive area of Italy and the availability of efficient road and rail links, a lot of industrial companies choose Ravenna as the best location for their activities. In the last few years numerous companies operating in various production fields have built or acquired plants in the port area.

The Marcegaglia port terminal, operating in the metallurgical sector, is equipped with a 355 by 50 m. wharf, three 35 ton rotating cranes, a 104 ton mobile crane, a railway sidetrack with a 40 ton crane and a locomotive for wagon handling, 19 forklifts from 13 to 42 tons and 10 tractor trucks with trailer from 30 to 120 tons to transport coils, tubes and other iron and steel products.

The Fassa Bortolo plant opened in August 2000 and produces a wide range of lime-cement based premixed plasters. The company Fassa, whose headquarters are located in Spresiano (TV), owns and operates 5 other plants in Italy, offering a complete supply of goods and assistance to operators in the building sector.

Bunge Italia S.p.a. is one of the main operators in oilseeds processing. The factory, one of the most important in Europe, is equipped with hi-tech and flexible plants - from seeds crushing to refining of crude oil and bottling - which allow an integrated process cycle from raw materials to bottled products. Located on a large area looking on to the port canal (canale Candiano), it has a berth 311 meters long, equipped with up-to date self-moving loading and unloading facilities, for both solid bulk and liquid materials.

Yara Italia S.p.a. has a production plant for fertilisers and its derivates and disposes of a quay that has its own loading- and discharging equipment for bulk and palletised material. We have a substantial number of warehouses for inhouse storage and a large area for outside storage. In our warehouses, we dispose of several bagging units that allow us to bag into different bag sizes upon client's request. The internal transport system is foreseen with a weighing bridge and weighing scales are available for truck loading. We also have the possibility to load containers with palletised material.

The Polimeri Europa Ravenna plant, which is an integrating part of a petrochemical area 2.7 sq. km large, has its own wharf. The plant, which is certified according to ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 quality standards, has about 800 employees. The productions and end-uses involve basic chemicals (industrial intermediates) and synthetic rubbers and latexes (tyres, sport and technical goods, footwear, adhesives, bitumen modification, padding, paper coating).

The Colacem terminal operates in the field of the unloading and storage of cement and of other aggregates for the construction industry. Situated at the entrance of the port of Ravenna, the plant is provided of 2 silos for cement and of a plant for the storage of bulk goods. The plant for the unloading of cement is made up of IBAU machinery and of a system of conveyors to the stockyard for the construction industry aggregates. For the delivery, mainly to the bordering areas of Emilia-Romagna, the loading of bulk cement on lorries is carried out by means of 4 lanes of double spout loaders, while aggregates are reloaded with a mechanical shovel. The wharf facing the terminal (Adria Off Shore) has a usable draught of 5,79 m, while the length is approx. 250 metres. A Cement packing plant is also present on the premises.
