Bunkering, lightening operations and transfer of goods

1. Bunkering, lightening operations and the transfer of goods for which it is necessary to place side by side fuel barges or floating ships to the moored vessels to the docks of the port, are only permitted when the width of the moored vessels is no greater than those previously mentioned.
2. If the sum of the width exceeds the values indicated above, the above-mentioned operations are only permitted when within the stretch of the Canal in question there are no ships in transit and in such case the fuel barges or floating ships, must well in advance move to the nearest available dock so as not to obstruct, slow down or to impede the transit of ships in the Canal.
3. However, at the port approaches, lightening operations, the transfer of goods or refuelling using half-full fuel barges with inflammable products of categories "A" and "B", of dangerous chemical products and gas even if in liquid state, are always prohibited.
4. The water areas outlined by the following co-ordinates are reserved for lightening operations:
   • 44° 31' 08'' North Long. - 012° 24' 00'' East
   • 44° 31' 08'' North Long. - 012° 26' 08'' East
   • 44° 30' 18'' North Long. - 012° 24' 00'' East
   • 44° 30' 38'' North Long. - 012° 26' 08'' East

   In the above-mentioned areas, while lightening operations are in course, navigation, anchoring or staying are forbidden.
